Alvaro Siza: Sacro
Abstract
Grandi pareti inclinate, un percorso sinuoso, spazi ampi alternati ad altri volutamente ristretti in dialogo e contrapposizione con quelli del museo: è così che il grande architetto portoghese Álvaro Siza ha immaginato la mostra in cui sono esposti disegni, progetti e oggetti che rivelano il suo rapporto con il sacro.

Progetti di ambito religioso si affiancano ad altri in cui il tema della sacralità è declinato in modo meno diretto: oggetti religiosi disegnati per il Santo Padre si alternano a disegni figurativi e a progetti di architettura italiani e esteri, mentre sulle pareti vengono proiettate le foto di alcuni suoi progetti, realizzate da sei fotografi internazionali. Così gli scatti di Fernando Guerra, Nicolò Galeazzi, José M. Rodrigues, Leonardo Finotti, Luís Ferreira Alves e Mimmo Jodice descrivono sia gli ambienti disegnati da Siza nei quali si pratica il culto religioso, ma anche la calma di atmosfere in cui natura e paesaggio sono i principi della sacralità.
Large sloping walls, a winding route, and spacious areas alternating with deliberately confined spaces in dialogue and contrast with those of the museum: this is how the renowned Portuguese architect Álvaro Siza conceived the exhibition, which brings together drawings, architectural projects, and objects revealing his relationship with the sacred.
Religious commissions are presented alongside projects in which the theme of sacredness is explored in a less direct way. Religious objects designed for the Holy Father are displayed alongside figurative drawings and architectural projects from Italy and abroad, while the exhibition walls feature photographs of some of Siza’s buildings by six internationally acclaimed photographers. The images by Fernando Guerra, Nicolò Galeazzi, José M. Rodrigues, Leonardo Finotti, Luís Ferreira Alves, and Mimmo Jodice portray not only the spaces Siza designed for religious worship, but also the serene atmospheres in which nature and landscape themselves become expressions of the sacred.
